Neglected to add we are about 60 miles north of Atlanta. You might enjoy that area. Some very nice small wineries, I was surprised in the quality of Georgia wine, some have won medals (third place) in Napa Valley.
Dahlonega (duh-lon'-e'-ga) is an interesting place to visit, about 75 miles north of Atlanta.
Dahlonega is the site of the first gold strike in the United States. Had so much gold they built a US mint there. That was the demise of the Cherokee nation which owned most of north GA and parts of Tennessee, N and S Carolina. They wanted to join the union and become a state, their Chief Joe Vann a Scottish half breed was the richest man in the Northern Hemisphere (before the gold strike).
When gold was discovered they moved the Cherokees off their land and moved them to Oklahoma (Trail of Tears).
Much like they did with the Lakota Sioux when gold was discovered in the Black Hills, land they were given by treaty and the Army was supposed to keep Whites out according to the same treaty. Nobody wanted this land (until gold was discovered).
