The time between argument and decision varies case to case, but a decision on the day of argument is very unusual. It can take anywhere between a week to 6 months or longer, depending on the judges docket schedule (how busy he is with other cases), the complexity of the case, whether he has made up his mind from the bench on that day or whether a closer review of the briefs or even his own personal research, whether he is aware of any case from another appeals or higher court being rendered in the future which may affect his decision (he may elect to wait until that is completed), and a whole littany of others which I am sure I haven't even thought of today.
