Speculation

FWIW, could this be a possible reason for the stay as well? Or are the circumstances different?

I found this interesting. I hope the reason for our stay differs from theirs.

NeoMedia patent to be re-examined
By Daily News staff

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Fort Myers-based NeoMedia Technologies Inc. announced Wednesday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is re-examining one of its patents.

NeoMedia has developed bar code reading technology that links camera phone users directly to the Web. The company has a large portfolio of U.S. and foreign patents and pending applications for inventions that involve the processing of "machine readable codes over wireless networks."

U.S. Patent No. 6,199,048 is getting another look as part of a legal challenge.

NeoMedia expects the patent to be confirmed. Statistics show only about 10 percent of patents that are reexamined have all their claims declared invalid, the company said in a news release.

"Regardless of the outcome of the reexamination, NeoMedia's inventions and the patent portfolio that protects them will continue to effectively serve the creation of a global and interoperable infrastructure that enables large-scale adoption of mobile codes as triggers of optically initiated transactions," said NeoMedia's CEO, William J. Hoffman, in a company statement.

NeoMedia has agreed to stay the current patent litigation against Scanbuy pending the outcome of the re-examination.
