NEWS - Northern Star Announces It Has Received the Certificate of Authorization for Construction of the Decline

Posted by: AGORACOM on February 27, 2008 09:34AM

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Feb. 27, 2008) - Northern Star Mining Corp. ("Northern Star" or the "Company")(TSX VENTURE:NSM) is pleased to announce it has received the Certificate of Authorization from the Quebec Government (Ministere du Developpement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs) for the construction of a 1,770 meter long (5,800 foot) decline to access and bulk sample gold mineralization discovered by surface drilling.

The decline will access, explore, develop and bulk sample gold mineralized zones located northwest of the decline Portal (entrance), initially to the 450 foot level (Chabela Zone), then extend further accessing other zones located under the old townsite of Halet at the 750 foot level. The gold bearing zones are all located in gabbro and porphyry bodies indicated by surface drill programs.

Gold mineralized rock mined will be trucked to Northern Star's wholly owned Beacon Gold Mill, located 30km east of the Malartic-Midway decline.

The decline will have dimensions of 5.0 meters (16.4 feet) in width by 4.7 meters (15.4 feet) in height with loading (remuck) bays located approximately every 110 meters.

The surface Portal (entrance) will be located some 1,220 meters (400 feet) southeast of the Company's 915 meter (3,000 feet) deep shaft # 1.

The Company has contracted Dumas Contracting Ltd., to carry out the decline construction.

Dumas is an experienced mining contractor having carried out underground shaft and decline sinking work at numerous projects including Aurizon's Casa Berardi mine, X-Strata's Perserverance mine in Matagami, and Agnico Eagle's Lapa gold mine in Cadillac, Quebec.

Construction of the decline will be financed by the Company's recent $17,985,000 (U.S) issuance of two year senior secured notes as announced in Stockwatch on November 27, 2007.

Gilles Gauthier, an experienced underground mine operator, has been named project manager, and Paul Cregheur, mining consultant will aid in the planning and overall supervision of the decline construction and underground development work.
