NEWS - Northern Star Announces Further Results From 2007 Surface Diamond Drilling Program

Posted by: AGORACOM on February 07, 2008 02:53PM

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Feb. 7, 2008 - Northern Star Mining Corp. ("Northern Star" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:NSM) is pleased to provide additional results from its 2007 diamond drill program carried out on its wholly owned Malartic-Midway Gold Project, located 16 kilometers west of Val d'Or, Quebec. Val d'Or is a world renowned gold mining district.

Drilling in 2007 on this target was oriented towards exploration on the higher grade gold mineralization within the gabbros and the lower grade mineralization within porphyry of the Osisko-Canadian Malartic and Agnico-Eagle Goldex types.

Detailed drilling was oriented to define mineralization structures alteration and rock mechanics, as well as exploration for new gold bearing horizons in order to advance underground exploration and development on the "Briar Zone" portion of the Malartic-Midway Gold project.

Results are as follows.

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au) Rock Type

MH-07-87 72.7 75.7 3.0 (9.7ft) 18.65 (0.54opt) Gabbro

Including 143.0 148.5 5.5 (18.1ft) 2.3 (0.07opt) Porphyry

182.3 188.0 5.7 (18.7ft) 2.68 (0.08opt) Porphyry

259.9 291.3 31.4 (103.0ft) 1.12 (0.03opt) Porphyry

MH-07-93 119.2 129.5 10.3 (33.8ft) 6.02 (0.18opt) Gabbro

- Core lengths are fairly close to true width

On the Piche-Harvey portion of the Malartic-Midway Gold project, drilling was oriented to discover new porphyry type gold mineralization, for large volume, lower grade type mineralization (Osisko-Canadian Malartic, Agnico-Eagle Goldex):

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au) Rock Type

MH-07-105 232.9 274.4 41.5 (136.2ft) 1.61 (0.05opt) Porphyry

Including 233.9 234.9 1.0 (3.3ft) 46.40 (1.35opt) Porphyry

"These results demonstrate the persistence and thickness of the gold mineralization on the project, and also demonstrate the potential of the project to have an additional type of gold mineralization in porphyry bodies of the Osisko-Goldex type. We are very encouraged by these results, and anticipate the start up of the underground phase of our exploration program to begin shortly", says Michel David, Northern Star's Chairman.

Additional results will be announced as available.
