CALGARY, Jan. 24 - AeroMechanical Services Ltd. (AMA) announced it has received notice that the U.S. Patent Office will reexamine one of its patents - U.S. Patent No. 7,203,630. AMA welcomes this review of the company's '630 Patent, confident that the Patent Office will ultimately find its patent to be valid. That will serve to strengthen the validity of the '630 patent against future challenges.
The re-examination of AMA's patent was requested by Star Navigation Systems Group, Ltd. (Star) in view of its U.S. Patent No. 7,113,852. This is the same patent that Star accused AMA of infringing in a recently filed lawsuit in the Northern District of California. AMA believes this lawsuit is without merit and has already formally requested dismissal of the action.
AMA is the technology leader in airliner performance monitoring systems, and holds patents recognizing its innovation in this industry. AMA takes intellectual property matters very seriously and respects the intellectual property of third parties. On the other hand, Star is failing in the marketplace and has chosen to compete with AMA via press release, baseless litigation, and U.S. Patent Office procedure - rather than in the marketplace via better products and services. AMA is prepared to take all necessary legal action against Star in order to defend itself, its patent and to aggressively pursue Star and its officers for any damages caused by Star's frivolous actions.
