Calgary, March 29, 2004 - AeroMechanical Services Ltd. (AMA: tsx-v)
(http://www.amscanada.com)(AMS), a leading provider of aircraft data capture, reporting and innovative solutions to the global aviation industry, is pleased to announce it has initiated a development program with MBEC BioProducts Inc. (MBEC) of Edmonton, AB. for the disinfection of commercial passenger aircraft cabin surfaces. MBEC is a leader in research and development of the control or eradication of microbial biofilms.
Graham Bruce, AMS Research and Development Manager, stated, “the route of transmission of many medically important diseases is through microbial biofilms growing on everyday surfaces. MBEC has perfected unique methodologies in culturing biofilms, and testing the efficacy of biocides on these biofilms. Our objective is to offer airframe manufacturers, such as Boeing, and the airlines they sell their products to, an effective method of disinfecting their aircraft using biocides developed and tested by the patented MBEC technology. AMS would intend to patent the solutions developed in this process and sell directly to the airlines with the approval and support of the aircraft manufacturers. AMS is currently researching, with the support of a major aircraft manufacturer, biocides for use on aircraft interiors. When developed, it will be certified for use on the aircraft by the necessary regulatory bodies and the aircraft manufacturer.”
Darryl Jacobs, President of AMS stated “AMS is pleased to be working with MBEC BioProducts on this important project. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership and can foresee a number of other significant development programs in the near future. The transmission of microbes on commercial flights has long been recognized as a problem by the travelling public. AMS is excited to work with our partners to reduce this inconvenience to travellers and the airlines.”
MBEC’s President, Ken Boutilier, said that he is “excited about the opportunity to participate in a project addressing a concern that has received significant recent public exposure. This project represents a good example of MBEC’s business strategy to make its unique technology available to potential customers from industries as diverse as pharmaceutical development, health management, all the way to development of biocides used for industrial maintenance.”
