TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) -

NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UNITED STATES NEWSWIRE SERVICES OR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

St Andrew Goldfields Ltd. (TSX:SAS), ("SAS" or the "Company") is pleased to announce results from the ongoing underground exploration drilling program on the Smoke Deep Zone at the Holloway Mine, which has confirmed previous drilling results and extended the zone of gold mineralization down dip. The Holloway Mine (which recommenced production in October 2009) is located in the eastern portion of the Company's 120 km long land package extending from Timmins to the Quebec border.

Smoke Deep Zone

The Smoke Deep Zone ("Smoke Deep") is located at the Holloway Mine, halfway between the Lightning Zone ("Lightning") to the west, and the Blacktop Zone to the east. A first phase of drilling was completed towards the end of 2009 (see press release dated February 8, 2010) and was aimed at defining the overall geometry of a zone of lower grade mineralization, and at the same time, to intersect the higher grade shoots that lie within this envelope. Using the information from the original 2007 holes, and the holes completed in 2009, the Company conducted a structural analysis of Smoke Deep to assist with better defining these shoots which was the focus of the second phase of drilling.

These recent results from the second phase of drilling at Smoke Deep have proven the robustness of the higher grade shoots, and have extended the gold mineralization down dip and along strike, which remains open and is untested through drilling. The Company is continuing to drill the east down dip extension of the mineralized zone and upon the completion of this current drilling campaign, will then determine the appropriate next phase of exploration.

See map, "Smoke Deep Drilling-12Apr10.jpg", as an associated link with this press release http://media3.marketwire.com/docs/SD-DRILLING-12Apr101.pdf or on the company website (http://www.sasgoldmines.com/s/NewsReleases.asp).

Highlights of Selected Higher Grade Intercepts

The following results have been selected from drill holes that intersected the higher grade shoots from the 2007, 2009, and 2010 drilling programs at Smoke Deep. These results are similar to the gold grade and width characteristics of the nearby Lightning Zone. As such, the focus of the ongoing exploration drilling program is to better delineate these higher grade shoots within the overall broader zone of lower grade mineralization at the Smoke Deep Zone. (For full list of results see press releases dated March 28, 2008, and February 8, 2010, available at www.sedar.com and on the Company's website at www.sasgoldmines.com).

"We are pleased with the results from the recent round of drilling at the Smoke Deep zone. With the limited drilling completed thus far, we have shown consistent mineralization, and have encountered some exceptional values as well. We are confident that future exploration in this area will continue to produce positive and encouraging results." said Jacques Perron, President & CEO of SAS. "Our exploration efforts for this year are underway, and we look forward to providing our shareholders with new results as they become available from our Smoke Deep, Deep Thunder and Taylor drill programs."

Exploration Update

The exploration program for 2010 will focus on exploration targets near the existing operations, followed by other key targets that are advanced, or show signs of relatively quick development. At the Holloway Mine, SAS recently commenced a surface drilling program at the Deep Thunder Zone which lies east of Blacktop. This area has limited historical exploration but shows the potential to be another zone of mineralization along this known trend.

A surface drilling program at the Taylor Project commenced in February and is targeting an area that lies between two previously identified zones (the "Shoot Zone" and the "West Porphyry Zone"). SAS acquired the area between these two zones towards the end of 2009 where no exploration work was ever carried out in the past.

Exploration Team

SAS is pleased to welcome two new additions to the exploration team. Both individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of the Timmins Camp and will provide much needed support for the enhanced exploration efforts going forward.

Dr. Keith Benn PhD, P.Geo. has recently joined SAS as Exploration Manager. Mr. Benn graduated with a BSc in Geology from the University of Western Ontario in 1983, and later earned a Doctorate from the Universite de Montpellier II, France. Mr. Benn was a faculty member of the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa from 1991 to 2008. Mr. Benn also provided consulting expertise to Canadian junior exploration firms in Canada from 1991, and was most recently the VP, Exploration with Currie Rose Resources Inc. Mr. Benn spent 17 years of research with a focus on the structural and tectonic history of the Abitibi greenstone belt.

Ms. Heather L. Miree, P.Geo. has recently joined the SAS team as Sr. Project Manager, Exploration. Ms. Miree graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Applied Earth Sciences. During her 24 year career in mining and exploration, Ms. Miree has held a number of increasingly senior positions within Canada and the US. Ms. Miree was the Manager, Mines Geology and Chief Mine Geologist with FNX Mining Company Inc. from 2006 to 2008, and was most recently the Chief Mining Geologist at Lakeshore Gold Corp., before joining SAS.

Drilling and Assaying

Drilling was completed by Forage Azimut Inc. Analytical work was performed by Laboratoire Expert Inc. (Laboratoire Expert), an ISO 9001:2000 certified laboratory in Rouyn-Noranda. Samples are dried and then reduced to 90% passing -10 mesh with a rolls crusher. The sample is then riffled using a Jones type riffle to approximately 300 g. The 300 g portion is pulverized to 90% passing -200 mesh in a ring and puck type pulverizer. A 29.166 g sample is taken for fire assay with an atomic absorption finish. In addition, SAS utilized a quality control/quality assurance program consisting of a number of sample standards and blanks that were inserted into the sample string, which represented approximately 5% of the total sample population.

Qualified Person

The exploration drilling was completed under the supervision of Michael Michaud, P.Geo. the Company's Vice President of Exploration, who is SAS' qualified person for this project as defined by NI 43-101, and who has reviewed and approved this news release.
