I think that 499,500 must be the upper limit for whatever quote system you are using. Have you ever seem a larger number there? At times today there was over 1,000,000 share at either the bid or the ask.

Cylinder: Level II refers to the bid/ask prices that are waiting below/above the "best" bid ask prices. It shows the depth of the market. Someone please correct me if I explained that wrong.
