A very good post. Most who are readng this are looking at a bunch of trees, and as such they cannot see the forest.
NOT desperately needs a person solely devoted to IR. It cannot be a person who is simply hired for it, but rather a person of high caliber and who retains a prominent position in the company. What better position than as CEO. The purpose here would not be to belittle RN's position or contributions, but to be an asset to him and the rest of the company.
I expect that we can look back on this post in a few months and reflkect on the accuracy of your statements.
