Strikes at mines and smelters across Peru which also happens to be the world's second-largest producer of copper have heightened supply fears, with global stocks of the red metal remaining at relatively low levels.

Workers at Peru's third-largest copper pit, Freeport McMoran's Cerro Verde, joined a nationwide strike as it entered its third day, with workers who want a bigger share of rising metal prices.
